Q.

Eating Problem

My grandson is 4yrs old. He has delayed speech. He can write anything that he sees legibly. He can also read although you have to look at what he reads to understand what he reads. His problem is that he does not want to eat. He smells everything before taking it to his mouth, as a result, he rejects everything that we give him. He doesn't want vegetables, porridge, meat, all he wants is dry bread. He doesn't like Doctors and hospitals. Just seeing the sign of a consulting room or hospital, he refuses to enter. How can we help him?

I am concerned about your grandson’s behaviour. It is important for him to be seen by either a child psychologist or by a paediatric neurologist in order to decide whether he is showing features of the autism syndrome. It may be better to start with a child psychologist as the consulting rooms will usually not be in a hospital or medical building.
