Q.

9 months - Passing too much gas

My daughter is 9 months old and since last week she has been passing too much gas. I think this has affected her sleep, because since then she doesn't sleep properly and even at night she will cry then push the gas out. Her stool is fine meaning not hard and comes out regularly. What caueses the gas because it is now affecting her sleep. Please help.

This excessive gassiness may just be a stage she is passing through or it may mean that she is lactose intolerant. Her stools are quite normal which is against lactose intolerance. Babies on soya formulas also can have excess gas. I presume that she is on a cow's milk formula. Try her on one of the new lactose free formulas for a few days and see if there is a marked improvement.

Thanks for your response and I understand what you are saying. The problem is that she is not a good eater and we haven't given her meat or even pasta. She eats potatoes, soft porrige, still drinks milk, water, normal baby cerial. And as I said, she doresn't eat well, we really struggle feeding her, she prefers to drink all the time than eat.

It could be her diet? She might have a problem digesting the food you are feeding her. If it stays in her digestive tract too long it can cause gas and a bloated feeling. She could have pain due to the gas. Did you perhaps feed her pasta? Meat takes a long time to digest as well.
