Q.

8 year old - crying

My child is 8. we moved her to a new school in January. She cries constantly at school and blames it on feeling ill. We have spoken to all the teachers at the school and no one knows why this is happening. She clings to me constantly when we're at home or anywhere else and is constantly giving me kisses and affection. Yesterday she burst out crying and screaming and told me that she gets these thoughts in her head "I wish I wasn't around my mom". She was panicky and scared and said she wished she wouldn't think these things. I don't kow what is causing this. Please help!!

She is having severe separation anxiety. The new school must have a lot to do with it as she has not behaved like this before. Has she been bullied by one or more of the children in her class?

Please have her evaluated by a child-pschycologist. They will be able to figure out any underlying fears or depression.

Is she perhaps being bullied?

Teachers generally don't notice bullying as its not done where it would come to their attention, as then teh bullies would get caught and they know this.

Ask her about it, but don't do it in a way that in any way implies she did something to cause anyone elses behaviour. If she says someone teased her, don't ask what she did to be teased about.

I got thoughts like that when I had depression. Perhaps see your paed or GP and ask for a referral to a child psychologist. I had dreadful thoughts and even dreams about harming peole I loved dearly or wishing ill on them when I was depressed. I didn't want to be around anyone and I hated everyone and thought they hated me.

Hi Pix,

Is there not maybe something going on at school with her mates, is she not maybe being bullied or touched in anyway...sorry to be so straight forward..but these days you can trust NO ONE...so ask all the necessary important questions....and ask in a nice, cool, calm manner..so that she won't be to scared to answer you.

Pix, there is so much crap going on in the world were children are concerned so really try to figure out whats happening and seek professional help if you have to..

Good luck and take care of you precious girl !!
