Q.

6 year old boy-cronic constipation

I have a 6 year old son who has been suffering from constipation from the time he went on solids.I have been to alot of doctors, one of which recommended movical. So he has been on that for 4 years now.It does help at times but he still has the problem. We were refered to a gastrointerologist two weeks back, who has done a gastrocopy on my son.The results show a mild inflamation of the oesophagus and he has recommended Losac (20mg) tabs for my son for two weeks.I am still very concerned and not content because my son still complains of abdominal pains everytime he eats.Could you please advise me as to what i should do!

The best advice would be give the medication time to work and to stay with the same gasto-enterologist. Also ensure that all the most important things are in place e.g. a healthy balanced diet (without fast foods, cookies, white bread etc.) with regular physical activity.

Wait and see what the gastro specialist is doing for you.

Also in the mean time, ensure that your child drinks 500-800ml of water a day. (You can add 1tsp ofhoney to half cup water which is also a mild laxative).
