4yr old complaining of painful penis

My 4yr old has been complaing a lot lately that his penis is either itchy or painful. When it''s painfull usually it''s erect. Can a boy''s penis be hard and why? This is worrying me, there''s no sign of infection. He circumsiced whe he was 2yrs old due to infections. He never complained until recently.

It is unusual for a young boy to complain about pain in his penis. Boys of this age can get erections and this is not sexual in nature.Even baby boys can get erections. You say that your son is circumcised so he would be unlikely to get an infection of the tip of his penis which is one of the most common causes of pain of the penis. Also he does not have any sign of infection. He may just be complaining about the feeling in his penis when he gets an erection because all of his complaints only occur when he does have an erection. There does not really seem to be any need to be concerned.

The pain may be caused by his circumcision having been done too tight. If too much of the penile skin has been removed, erections can be very painful as there is no ''spare'' skin for the penis to grow into when the boy gets an erection. This is one of the functions of the foreskin, to provide sufficient skin for a comfortable erection.
