4 year old and movement

Hi Doc, my 4.5 year old boy is not as mobile as other boys his age. When he runs, only one arm swings and he can''t really jump of objects....when jumping of something small like a foot high step, I noticed he does not really bend his knees either. He started walking just before 18 months and in general, is on the slower side of development. Should we consider physiotherapy or perhaps occupational therapy? Or is it quite normal?

Thank you in advance

It is difficult to decide if your son's movements are normal or not without being able to see him. From your description he has definitely been on the slightly delayed side with his development. Many boys especially those of this age are a bit 'clumsy', but all seems to come right at about the time they start going to school. It would definitely be an good idea to have him assessed by an occupational therapist. Your son will get an excellent assessment from this expert.
