3 year old not able to fall asleep.

Please I really need yor help.... My daughter of 3 is a very light sleeper and she finds it difficult to fall asleep... when it gets to sleeping time i just want to run away. She will fight againts the sleep from 21h00 to almost midnigt or even later.. She goes to creche and does not sleep for long at creche .... in the mornings she can' t wake up and she cries so much because she is tired. I feel sorry for her. On week-ends she does not even have a nap, when she feels she wants to fall asleep she would jump up and go on playing or start crying.Should I speak to her peadiatrician about this. Please advice what to do.

Many thanks
Sleepless mom.

First give the simple things a try. She should be in bed by 8pm. The house must be quiet and peaceful with no TV on loudly. Lie next to her and read a quiet, non exciting story. When the story is finished , kiss her goodnight and leave her room. Show that you mean business. be firm and direct with her and don't keep looking to see if she is asleep.Give this new approach at least a week and see if she falls asleep. Her dad must take turns as well, one night you and one night him. If this does not work it may help to speak to your paediatrician about using a natural sleep aid such as melatonin for a short period to get her routine established

I have exactly the same problem. My son will be 4 next month and I cant get him to sleep at night. I put him in bed at 8 already and then the drama starts. He' ll keep coming out of room and start playing again. His dad and I are so tired of struggling with this every night. Our GP suggested giving him maletonin and it works but I dont want to keep him drugged at night to sleep. Can doctor perhaps help?
