Q.

3 year old losing weight

When my boy went for his 3year old check up in August, his weight was 19.8kg. He was 102cm tall. I took him of Isomil and his bottles (he drank 3 bottles/day). At present he is eating very well, and drinks water, no milk. He looks healthy and energetic, but sometimes get stomach pain (this has been looked at, no problems were identified). I'm worried, because he is loosing weight. Last week he was 17.5kg and this week 17kg. He lost more than 2kg in 2 months. Is this to be expected of a 3 year old, who is growing fast? Everybody tells me that I'm worried without reason?

Thanx

He should definitely not be losing weight. I am always concerned about this symptom especially in a country like ours where TB and other illnesse are such a problem. In the early stages there will be very few clues that a child may have TB. Please have him checked by a doctor or paediatrician.
