2.5 yr old Sleeping Issues

My 2.5 yr old is still not sleeping through the night. She got used to the idea of me (since she was a baby) to lie next to her until she falls asleep and never did I even think of the consequenses. She will not go to sleep without me or my husband. Someone must lie with her. We' ve tried to read a story to her and telling her to sleep by herself now that she' s a big girl, but no luck. And during the night she will wake up like 3 times crying or kicking her legs. She dreams alot I have noticed (since she was a baby). But what more can I do to make her sleep better. She eats fairly well. She goes to a excellent creche during the day and she seems very happy there. Laughs alot and participating in class activites etc. Her sleeping problem is getting to us. SHe' s a very anxious child, especially when she hears something she will ask what that was etc. What do you suggest I do to get her to sleep by herself in her bed? She' s been sleeping in a double bed now since 18 months of age. We had to, cause she climed out of her cot. LOL !! Please help me.

You need to establish a definite routine with your daughter's bedtime. Decide on the time after supper and after a bit of family togetherness. Keep the house nice and quiet, peaceful and happy. Read to her, nothing too exciting but always nice and interesting for her.Put a nightlight in her room. Kiss her goodnight after reading and leave the room. If she starts to cry you will need to apply the controlled crying technique which is very hard on the nerves and may take two or even three nights, but it will work.
