200ml fluid intake a day for 30 month old

Hi Doc
I was wondering whether if you have a child who for a prolonged period of time is only drinking 200ml a day, 250ml on a good day, whether this could affect his kidneys etc in the long run?
(Age 30 months, weight 11.7kg) My child was tube weaned in Nov last year and is doing well except for the drinking. I count the milk he has on cereal into this amount, as well as any other fluid he may have (such as a teaspoon or two of ice cream or yoghurt).

I know that you do get a certain amount of fluid in foods and l have chatted to my paed about his drinking habits. We have decided that if he goes below 200ml he will need to get admitted and that has happened once already.

I try to “ cheat”  and use things like jelly, ice cream, lekka licks etc to get fluid in but even then l am lucky to hit 200ml in a 24 hour period.

Can this affect him negatively in the long run, healthwise?

Thank you very much for your advice, much appreciated.

You are welcome. Obviously your son is taking far too little fluid per day. His minimum daily fluid requirement is 1000ml+50ml for every kilogram he weighs above 10kg=1100ml per day. Inadequate fluid intake can lead to dehydration, electrolyte [body salts] changes and kidney problems.

Also meant to say that l am not having very many wee nappies - maybe 2-3 slightly wet ones that smell quite strong though.

He is also a bit constipated at times.

I am just not sure what the way forward is and if he is okay and l am stressing for nothing?
