20 mnth waking so early

Hi, i have a son who is 20 mnths old, he's always been a good sleeper, goes down at 7 only waking at 5:30 sometimes 6 if we lucky. I have to leave at 6:20 for work so that's no problem...the problem is for the last month he's been waking up everyday at 4 am. He has dark curtains in his room plus a dark blind behind that so the sun doesn't shine through, his room is cool, he's not sick so i can't understand why now he has become such an early riser? We put him down at 7:30 now and still wakes up at 4. We even bring him through to our bed just to get that extra hour sleep but he thinks it's time for everyone to get up. Can anyone offer any advice towards his sleeping habits?

It sounds like a happy baby and what you experience is normal. My advice would be, not to give him any incentive to wake at 04h00 and to try putting him to bed a little later. If he is awake and playing by himself in the cot there is no reason to disturb him. Unfortunately, there are no easy answers and sometimes one needs to find your own pragmatic way.

He probably doesn't need as much sleep anymore. Have you tried keeping him up later at night. Try it gradually, increasing it by half an hour every other week
