20 mnth old not gaining weight

My 20 month old son has not gained any weight during the past month and only 0.5 kg since his 18 month check-up. He now weighs 11.7 kg, which is below the growth curve for babies who weighs 3.6 kg at birth. He was exclusively breasfed for 5 1/2 months and never took formula (I still breastfeed him once a day). He eats very well - typically oats and a banana for breakfast, a midmorning snack of cheese and fruit, a cooked meal at lunchtime, a small cup of milk and an apple mid-afternoon and another cooked meal for dinner. Should I be worried and what can I do to help him gain weight?

Your toddler's weight is very close to the average for a boy of his age. He is on a good mixed diet. Children often slow down with their weight gain in the second year after the rapid growth and weight gain of the first year of life. There does not appear to be any need for concern here.
