2 year old with runny and smelly tummy

Hi doc

My son is just over 2 years now and he is a very active and healthy boy. He eats well at school and home. I give him 2 servings of Nido everyday (150ml each).
Recently (about 5 or 6 days now) he has this terrible runny tummy. it is awfull and it smells terrible. We even have trouble changing his nappy because of the strong smell. It''s like amonia which takes away your breath if you breath it in. I even have to bath him after it because the smell clings to his skin. It is very very watery and light green to grey in colour. He doesn''t seem sick and sleeps well at night. Even though he gets in early in the morning he doesnt'' wake up from it and then everything is a mess. Then he has another one of those nappies during the day at school and maybe at night when we get home but usualy only two times a day. Should I take him to the doctor? He hasn''t got any signs of illness like fever or nothing. He had a terrible cough and cold a while ago but that was before this runny tummy and I have him mucospect for that. Hope to hear from you soon.

I presume that your son has not had any antibiotics recently as this can cause this kind of diarrhoea. Also stop the Mucospect as this may sometimes cause a runny tummy. Your son does not appear to have an infection and his symptoms suggest that he is reacting to something and the most likely cause is the Mucospect. Also stop all fruit and fruit juice for at least 5 days and give him a probiotic such as Probiflora Childrens for 10 days.
