2 year old throaty

Dear Doc

My 2 year old had a cold a few weeks ago, and he was hoarse for about a week. I didn' t take him to a dr. as we still had meds from the previous cold.

It cleared up the runny nose and cough but his voice is still a bit husky it just never went back to normal and it' s been over 4 weeks already.

Should I rather take him to my dr. or will it eventually clear up or is there any OTC meds I can get him for this?

Thanks Doc

Your son must have had an illness called croup which is an infection of the voice box or larynx. This usually clears up quickly but your son has quite a persistent laryngitis still.I don't want him to have cortisone containing medicines now as he is in the recovery period of his illness.Just keep his nose clear by using saline nose drops twice a day. If you live in a dry part of the country then a humidifier in his room will speed up his recovery.
