2 month old baby with problems

HI doc, not sure if this is up your alley.

My daughter has had a eye infection since birth, I have beed prescribed anti biotical eye ointment as well as others and none of them work. She has constant yellow discharge comming from her eye. Her eye always tears aswell.

I was told by the one doctor that she has a blocked tearduct and she prescribed the antibiotic ointment but it did not work.

I am not sure who to take her to anymore.

Your baby almost certainly has blocked tear ducts. Make up a very dilute salt solution to wipe clean both of her eyes with at least twice a day. Use a quarter teaspoon salt in a cup of boiled and cooled water. Wipe her eyes with a cotton wool swab from her nose side outwards. It is very important to gently massage the corner of her eyes at the nose side using your small finger. Gently rub this area twice daily using your finger. If she does not improve after 10 days she should be seen by an ophthalmologist [not optician]. Ask your paediatrician or doctor to recommend an ophthalmologist.

Hi There
My daughter is now 4 months old and she also has an eye infection from the time she was born. She was on two types of Medication which never worked. i was told it will take some tim eto go away. The paed told me to massage the side of the nose where the infection is and it will gradually go away. I have noticed a big difference already. another option is to see an Optomologist. All the best
