1y1m old with diarrhea for over a week

Hi Paediatrician

I need your advice. I do not know what to do anymore. My daughter (1y1m) has had a a runny tummy for over a week now. It started last week Monday. She has on average 10 loose stolls a day. Lat week Thursday i tok her to GP and she gave her Reuteri and mixed a bum cream for her. Her bum was raw. It seemed to get better on Sunday but later that day it got worse. So on Monday I took her to Paediatrician. Paediatrician took stool sample and prescribed a spray for her bum. she said she is still hydrated.

I have not received the result of the stool sample as yet. The paediatrician also mentioned that she could have Toddlers diarrhea but how is it meant to last?

I am just so worried cos the runny tummy is just not letting up. The moment she eats, it comes out, Nothing really stays in her tummy. I can actually see what she has eaten coming out. She cries when we wipe her bum. I''ve taken to just rinsing it off with water but even that hurts her.

It hurts so much seeing her cry when i cannot do something about it and the runny tummy just keeps getting worse.

What must I do?

You have set your question out very well. I am concerned about your baby girl who has quite severe diarrhoea for more than a week. She is in fact getting worse. She may possibly have a severe Rotavirus infection. It is possible that part of her problrm now is a temporary lactose intolerance. You need to contact the paediatrician and tell him/her that your baby is having severe diarrhoea and is no better. She may require admission to hospital for extra fluids. In the meantime give her frequent sips of Rehidrat solution as often as she will take these sips.
