Q.

19th mnth old not eating

My son is 19 months old, he keeps his porridge and food in his cheeks and spits it out, he does not eat at all, he just want to drink, be it bottle, water, juice etc. I am at my wits end, i tried everything under the sun to get him to eat but it is just the same old story. I have tried sitting him on the floor, chair, strapped him in his car seat but nothing seems to help.He does not even eat sweets, chocolaes or chips. His mouth is almost full of teeth so it is not like he can't chew. He will not even feed himself!!!! I have tried giving him a vitamin supplement, but that makes him hyperactive, he then wakes up almost every hour at night for a bottle. I am at my wits end trying to get this child to eat, i even resorted to giving him a slap on the hand when he spits the food out, but nothing seems to help, this i felt bad about.

This is quite normal. Children often eat less at this age. You are making mealtimes unpleasant and like a war. He will eat when he feels like it and all will come right with time. You must really relax and be calm with him.
