Q.

18 month old has Mumps!

My 18 month old daughter has mumps.

I would like to find out if I am allowed to bathe her and if she is allowed to leave to house at all.

Does the old woman tales of warming cake flour etc. really help?

She is not eating or drinking anything at this stage.

Any advice would be helpful.

Regards

It is very unusual for such a young child to have mumps especially as children are given the MMR immunisation at 15 months.Did she have the MMR vaccination?Children with mumps complain of pain on eating or drinking and most refuse to eat solids, prefering to take a little fluid at a time. This lasts for 3 to 4 days. Your child is infectious to others for 7 days from the onset of the swelling of the face. The only treatment that is usually necessary is something for the pain and fever and panado syrup is recommended for this.
