17 months and still not sleeping through

My little boy will be 17 months on the 23rd. He is healthy and weighs 13.3kgs. He is still breastfed (mainly at night to fall asleep though) and is on solids, although most of the time he just chews to get out the flavour and then spits the food out. I top him up with cereal if i see he hasnt eaten much and try and give him a bottle of peadiasure after his bath before bedtime (he has never taken to a bottle, but sometimes manages to have between quarter to three-quarters of a bottle). He is in bed with us. I have tried moving him into his own bed, but everytime he wakes up he wants to dummy on my for comfort. I have tried to wean him but he screams blue murder at night if i do not give it to him. Is there anything else i can do? He wakes up between 3 and 5 times a night!

Obviously your toddler has become used to this routine of being breastfed virtually throughout the night. You must be exhausted. He does not appear to be hungry and the Pediasure should certainly top him up very nicely before bedtime. Also he is in your bed which is another problem and he will certainly not like to be moved now. Unless you are prepared to go on like this for several more months, the only way to deal with this problem is to put your son in his cot and to use the 'controlled crying' method. This is not easy and can be very hard on the nerves but if you are prepared to go through with the whole process it will work. You can read up about the 'controlled crying' method on Google.
