15 weeks

Hi doctor, my 15 week old baby wakes up almost every hour during the night. He' ll drink a little milk and fall straight back to sleep, but be awake again by the next hour. I' ve tried getting him to eat more before he goes to bed and also during they day, but he doesn' t want any more than his usual feeds. He was born 4 weeks early, weighs 6 kgs and has about 100ml of Nan every 2 to 3 hours. We' ve also started introducing a teaspoon of rice cereal in the evening bottle. He' s very happy and content come bedtime and sleeps ok until about 2/3 o' clock when the hourly feeds start! I' ve also tried only giving him is dummy when he wakes up, but he cries until he gets his milk. What do you recommend?

Your baby has done well as regards his weught and as you say seems generally to be a happy and content baby. You do not say if his waking is recent but I presume that it is. He may be starting with teething now. Other factors which could cause this kind of waking are unlikely. He does not appear to be hungry, he is not having any reflux and no symptoms to suggest that he has a milk intolerance. You could try him on a more filling formula such as Lactogen1, but he may have now established a routine that he won't easily get out of for the short term, but should settle down with time.
