11 and 1/2 month old, refusing formula milk

Dear Doc

My son is turning 1 in 18 days, and he refuse to drink formula milk. I have been bottle feeding him breast milk since he was 4 days old. But at times I need to supplement with formula, but he gags the moment he tastes the formula milk (I have tried NAN 2, Lactogen 2, Novalac AC, Perlon 2) I use formula milk (NAN 2) for mixing his cereal in the morning, and for puré eing his food, if need be. He also enjoys plain water and fruit juice, and likes rooibos tea mixed with fruit juice.

What other formula or milk can I try?

Also, how many bottles of milk (breast and formula), and how much at a time, should he be drinking a day?

At the moment he drinks about 5 (220ml) bottles a day.

He is quite a big boy, 10.5kg, and has a health appetite most days. Will eat cereal in the morning, finger food snack at 10, purity/home-made puré e at lunch and dinner and a yoghurt snack at 3.

Please advice

It is possible that your son now prefers the sweetness of fruit juice and rooibos tea mixed with fruit juice to any formula milk. You can try him on NAN Pelargon which has a yoghurt-like taste whch he may like. If he won't take the NAN Pelargon he is almost 12 months and is old enough to try him on Parmalat First Growth milk which has a good taste. He is drinking the correct amount of breastmilk and formula per day. In fact this is his full daily fluid requirement, so if he is having other fluid to drink as well then he is taking more than enough in the way of liquid per day.
