10mnth old''s cracking ankles and knees

Good-day Dr,

I''m hoping if you could advise on my 10mnth old''s cracking ankles and knees. When she sits and moves her feet/legs, we can clearly hear a cracking noise on both her ankles and knees. It doesn''t bother her.

Should we be concerned? Your advise in this matter will greatly be appreciated.

Many thanks

You have made an excellent observation. 'Clicking' or cracking of the knee and ankle joints are usually a feature of double-jointedness and this has the medical term of 'hypermobility'of the joints. Your baby girl does not have any pain.Hypermobility of the joints is common and in most case there are no problems. However it is essential to exclude certain inherited conditions seen in children where their hypermobile joints are a definite problem. For this reason you should ask your paediatrician to see your baby.
