Hi there,

My little baby boy is just over 1 week. (Friday he was 1 week) His nose is blocked and struggles to sleep. What can I use to ease the breathing for him? Please help........!!!

It is possible that your baby has developed a viral infection like a cold which is blocking his nose, but it is unusual for such a young baby to have such a blocked nose. You can try infant saline nose drops twice a day, but if his nose does not clear after 2 days there must be some other reason for his very blocked nose.Sometimes a baby is born with a complete blockage of one or both notrils. This condition is called choanal atresia. If your paediatrician suspects this diagnosis it is necessary to get the opinion of an ENT specialist.

Hi, my baby is 8 months old now and has had a cold twice. I used a salt water nasal spray called can use it up to 6 times a day. Its'  quite tricky getting it into their tiny nostrils, but I used to turn her head to one side and gentle spray it in. He will most probably get a fright and cry a little, but that' s not the end of the world. I also use karvol, pour a few drops on the bedding around the area where baby lies but not to close to baby' s head. Another cheap solution is the Bennets eazy breath kit, consists of a vapour salf you rub onto their chests and back as well as a tube that looks like lipice you can rub on under his nose. BUT I do agree with the doctors message, first make sure it' s not more serious than a cold. Another usefull tip is to stack a few items (blanckets or towel) under baby' s bedding so that he sleeps up at an angle. This helped for my baby! good luck and remember you' re a great mother...
