Curing an allergy depends on the causes. Desensitisation immunotherapy to grass pollen is highly successful and results in permanent cure. This involves being exposed to small amounts of the allergens until tolerance is induced which can take a few years to achieve. Rush immunotherapy can be much shorter. Dust mite desensitisation is also possible but not as effective as for grass pollen allergy. Children are now being desensitised for peanut allergy, but this is still in the early stages and not readily available commercially. But there is a bright future for desensitisation immunotherapy using injections, the oral route and perhaps even via the skin.
