I would most definitely recommend a comprehensive assessment for ADHD and/ or a mood disorder. Children can sometimes cope with the demands of primary school, but when the demands of secondary school become more, as well as the requirement for increased independence, they may start to struggle - thereby "unmasking" ADHD which was present all along.
