Persistent knee pain after trauma can be concerning. It sounds like you may have either injured the ligaments involved in stabilising the knee cap, or possibly had damage to structures within the knee, for example the cartilage or a meniscus. If the knee is/was swollen, and you are finding it difficult to weight-bear, it may be a more severe injury, despite a relatively 'light fall'. A knee brace is helpful in terms of stability and pain control, but if there is structural damage, it may not be sufficient. It's advised to have the knee thoroughly examined by an orthopaedic surgeon or sports physician, so that a diagnosis can be made, and a knee rehab program planned.
