Causes
A strain is caused by twisting or pulling the muscle. A chronic strain, like an abdominal strain is usually the result of overuse - prolonged, repetitive movement of the abdominal muscle.
It can also be caused by a single violent force to the muscles, during a collision or sudden twist.
Symptoms
- Pain during sprinting (not jogging), twisting and turning, kicking a ball long distances and sometimes when coughing or sneezing.
- Prolonged sitting or overuse can cause stiffness.
