Q.

Night terrors

Hi I'm hoping I can get some advice on this please. I've had hallucinations when falling asleep for as long as I can remember - they used to be very novel things (e.g. I'd 'wake up' and think my lamp or phone cable was floating towards the ceiling - random I know!) but more recently (last year or so?) I've been experiencing 'night terrors' more frequently. I keep waking up in a complete panic (rapid breathing, sweating, heart racing, sometimes yelling or screaming) early on in the night - not long after I've fallen asleep. This is usually coupled with a 'vision' of seeing someone (usually a man but not always the same one) standing in my room. At the time it feels very real. On some occasions I've reached out at my partner in a panic asking 'what is it/who is that'. This is becoming more of a regular occurrence - maybe 2 times a week now? I always remember the occurrences the next day. When they happen it disturbs my partner and I usually need to be really comforted in order to settle and go back to sleep. I don't usually have any trouble getting to sleep and once I fall asleep again I'm okay for the rest of the night (apart from the occasional loo break!) Other than these experiences, I'm otherwise fit and well, exercise regularly, have good mental health (I think!) and no particular stressors. We did move house last year but it was a relatively straight forward experience and I don't feel particularly stressed about this or anything else. I've not noticed that they are related to alcohol either, and I don't eat cheese late at night! I usually have my evening meal at 7pm at the latest and I am in bed by 10:30pm. Any advice would be appreciated as I'm really starting to get freaked out. Thanks
