Q.

Melatonin and magnesium

I have been battling to sleep for a good few months, not stressed about anything just can't sleep. I dose on and off during the night but never get into a deep sleep and often fully awake for 2 to 3 hours every night. I have started taking one melatonin before bed and also taking magnesium tablets. Is one enough and how long should it be before I notice a difference? Many thanks

Melatonin usually has an effect within a few days but it is important to have the correct sleep pattern as well. Make sure you are not spending long hours in bed trying to sleep. Rather go to bed much later than you are currently doing - at least 1 1/2 hours later. If you cannot sleep then rather get up and do something - lying in bed is very destructive to your sleep habits. No medication will help if your sleep habits are not aligned with the sleep your brain is able to get.

I am a shift worker and I need something to make me fall asleep during the day when I am on working night shift so that will have a good sleep before going to work for 12hour night shift. Thank you
