Q.

Seizures while sleeping

2 months ago I suffered what I believe to be a Gran Mal Seizure a week before I was about to do Comrades the neurologist found no signs of epilepsy and could not explain the episode. a week ago I suffered blackouts and was admitted to hospital, once again the neuro found activity in the Left lobe of the brain but nothing that could be explained. I do recall having the Wednesday night before the blackouts I had cloudy visions and an a restless night. is it possible that I have a unidentified sleeping disorder I suffer from stress and over active mind and busy lifestyle. prior to the seizure I was put on Ivedal 5mg this woke me up at 01:00 in the morning and could not sleep further so I left it. I was now put on a new pill (not sure of the name) 2mg first night worked like a dream.. last night woke up twice.. any thoughts

Apologies for the delay but my emails were diverted without my knowledge. While it is possible that sleep deprivation may cause epileptic seizures there usually needs to be total deprivation for a few nights in order to instigate the seizure. It is unusual for a mild sleep disorder to initiate a seizure. The other medication the 2mg may be Dormanoct - it is a very good hypnotic
