Q.

Extremely painful swallowing

For a few days now, I've been experiencing a lot of pain when trying to swallow. It feels like I'm trying to swallow razor blades whenever I try to swallow food or fluids. I suffer from hypothyroidism but the doctor is happy that my thyroid medications are correct and my thyroid functions normally now. I had my tonsils removed when I was little (I'm an adult now) so it can't be tonsillitis either. It also cannot be due to improper swallowing, because I woke up last Thursday morning with the sore throat, and I'm sure I don't eat anything in my sleep... I get seasonal sinusitis but have been lucky the last couple of months. I can't remember the last time I got sinusitis. I have an occasional dry cough too, and I know it's due to a post-nasal drip. I have made an appointment with my GP but would like to know what to expect, whatever the cause may be. Thanks in advance
