General information

Saccharomyces boulardii is a probiotic. Probiotics are micro-organisms, usually bacteria, which have health benefits, and can be used to inhibit the presence of other, harmful micro-organisms.

In South Africa saccharomyces boulardii is registered for the treatment of prevention and treatment of side effects induced by antibiotic therapy. These include diarrhoea and yeast infections, acute diarrhoea of non-specific origin and the prevention of diarrhoea during continuous enteral feeding.

This probiotic has been shown to maintain and restore the natural flora in the large and small intestine.
