Q.

Wetting myself in the early morning

Hi I am 54, rather overweight female. I have developed hypertension on Ridaq and Enalapril. I am on a health eating and exercise plan to lose weight. I do dribble a bit if I cough/laugh in the day so I wear a Tena mini pad. But, although I urinate twice before sleep (say between 930 and 11pm) I wake up in the early hours with a full bladder and sometimes I have wet myself. I don't think I have an infection at all. My urine is tested at the clinic as I was prone to UTI after I stopped bleeding (menopause). I do not drink a lot towards evening (taper off from 7pm) but this wetting myself is getting to me. Even if I wake up to go the loo say at 5am I cannot make it quickly enough. Post lockdown I will go for a check up. Is there anything OTC that could help that isn't dangerous? My Mom of 78 is basically incontinent and I fear I am going the same way. I don't drink alcohol but I do drink about 3 cups of tea in the day and have lemon water in the morning. I drink water in the day.

Dear Tina

There is definitely treatments that can help, but all of them require a script, and you would need an assessment first to exclude a structural cause.
I would suggest an appointment with a Urologist.
Kind regards
