Good news for caffeine and alcohol lovers: a new study has found that coffee, tea and alcohol do not have any effect on gastro-oesophageal reflux disease (GORD). But if you're a salt-lover or a smoker, you're not off the hook.

Take action:
Stop smoking. Smoking is still the number one culprit. Also eat high-fibre bread instead of white bread, exercise for 30 minutes at least twice a week, eat smaller meals, don't eat close to bedtime and limit your salt intake.
