Hearing management

Thank you for your reply to my pervious posting on Tinnitus. During January I had a middle ear infection, which then became an innerear infection and then there was also a virol infection. All the infections have now cleared but the Tinnitus has stayed. Do you think that an anti depressant will help me cope with this condition better?
Thank you.

Dear Susie

As i said in my previous reply, there are several possible causes and ways to treat it. I would strongly advise that you still see an Audiologist for a hearing evaluation as well as your GP, to make sure that we look into all possibilities. Please let me know if you need a referral to someone in your area (

Kind regards

Hi Izabelle.
I've read some of your replies on Tinnitus.
Could you reccommend an Audiologist in my area?
I live on the Bluff in Durban KZN.
I've suffered for so long with this problem that I can't tell you when it all started.mine sounds exactly like the feed back you get from a microphone and amplifier.
It actually wakes me up.
My right ear is forever blocking up and yet my GP says there's no wax build up and I need to learn how to live with it.
I've become anti-social because I can hear people around me talking but cannot make out what they are actually saying.
The only way a Doctor can appreciate the intensity of the noise is if he/she has the same condition.
John MacDonald.
