The first important thing if the infection is not clearing up, is for her to go back to her GP. I would further recommend that she goes to see an Ear, Nose and Throat specialist. After the infection is cleared up, it would be advisable to have her hearing and middle ear functioning evaluated by an Audiologist. If you don't know any Hearing professionals in your area, please e-mail me at firstname.lastname@example.org and i will refer you.
Concerning the middle ear infection: The most common symptoms of middle ear infection is; pain, tenderness, fever, discharge, tinnitus [ringing in the ears] and conductive hearing loss. Once the infection has cleared up all the symptoms should clear up. Patients often feel disorientated and struggle with balance problems.
Please go and see the necessary hearing/ear professionals and if you have any further questions feel free to write again.
