Q.

inner-ear crystals

Hi Dr ,

My wife recently woke up with extreme dizzyness , loss of balance and accompanied by nausiness. Only after a few Drs visits did we manage to get a specialist who diagnosed it as an innerear problem where crystals in the inner-ear became dislodged . Treatment involved her head to be moved with rapid movements from side to side , and backwards with success.
This now happened a second time -- What causes this and is there any early warning symptoms that can help with early treatment/medication ?--as we are in Mozambique and access to a specialist is not easy--many thanks

Dear Pete

I understand your concerns and the practicalities behind seeing a specialist. The first thing that i have to mention is that there are some possible contradictions in the symptoms that you are mentioning. Did the specialist give you a final diagnosis? Did they perform a test that is called Video Nistagmography on your wife and what was the final results. I would like to give you more detailed information but i will need more information from you. Please send me some detail about her condition, medical history, daignosis etc. Have you discussed any of your questions with the specialist and what advice did he/she give you?

You can write to me at izabelle@widex.co.za

Hoping to hear from you soon
Kind regards
Izabelle Pieterse
