Digital Hearing-aid

Dear Sir/Madam,

I have a big problem as the medical aid will not cover the digital hearing-aid in full and it is very useful when I want to hear on my cell phone for my work environment. I tried previously that the analogue hearing-aid life span lasts approximately 3- 5 years so the annual hearing-aid benefit is R5000-00. Instead of buying a new hearing-aid annually, I would like to obtain one digital hearing-aid in the span of 4 years.

In that 4 years the cost will be R5000-00 x 4= R20000-00 in the place of a new annual analogue hearing-aid and the medical aid must "stop" giving benefit until after the lapse of 4 years. Do you see my point? Can it be possible if you can be of an assistance to me? Can you advise me?

Yours sincerely
Arthur Castle

Dear Chopper/Arhur Castle

This definitely sounds like a good plan, but unfortunately the medical aids (as from my experience) do not work like that. The benefits that are available will be per year will be lost if you do not use it. I have worked with a few medical aids that were willing to combine two years. check with your medical aids and speak with them they might ce willing to do that. It might be necessary for you to get a motivational letter from a hearing care professional.

If the medical aid is not willing to do any of this you can look at other alternatives. You must also remember all the other factors to take into consideration. If there is a loss of hearing present in both ears you need a hearing aid in both ears. It is more important to have amplification in both ears than to have a very expencive aid in the one ear. you loose all the benefits from that one very sophisticated aid!

There are a few new digital hearing aids available in the price range of R5000 to R6000.00. Theses aids are fully digital and and compatible with cell phones. You could than use the benefit this year and next year and have two digital aids.

If you need any information on these products please reply to this and i could give you info.

Good luck

I "had" a state of the art digital hearing aid. The battery was flat - so i took it out to get a new battery. I put it into my handbag - and with all the public holidays - never got as far as to buying one immediately. HORROR!!! Somehow it fell out - I am without my hearing aid - I have not ven paid it off yet - my Insurance refuses to pay for it. Where can one buy one "scond hand"??

Recently I got a new hearing aid, its the top range - and they arranged terms for me via a bank for medical goods called Mobility Plus. With interest so low you dont feel it - and i use my savings account with the medical aid to pay for the consulting fees.

Hi, The only way round I found was to buy 1 aid in December and the following 1 in Jan. In that way I got 2 HA's and got the majority of the cost paid ( I still had to pay in ).
