How would i know if my child of 18 months can't hear me properly. He doesnt react when i call him, or i can stand like 2 meters away from him he doesn't react when i call his name. He only smiles when he sees me. He doesn't talk. He did start saying mamma, pa and baba but he hasn't talked for 1 month now. Could there be a problem?

Dear Veronica

A child of about 12 - 18 months should use about 20 words, understand about 50 words, should follow instructions. At 2 years the child should speak in simple sentences and have a vocabularly of about 200 - 300 words.

It is very important that a childs hearing should be tested frequently. Please take your little one to see an Audiologist for a hearing evaluation, if necessary, he or she will refer you for further evaluation. If you don't know of someone in your area, please mail me and i will gladly refer you to a paediatric audiologist. (

Please let me know if you need any further information

Kind regards
