Q.

Grommet issues

My 9 year old daughter has recently had a second set of grommets inserted and is still having issues. My daughter had vents inserted when 8 with no problems. After about a year she began having problems again. Her ears were very sore and at times discharging yellow liquid. The other big problem is the itchiness, they were continually itchy. She had about 5 months of ear drops of different names and oral antibiotics twice. We had a ct scan and there was nothing worrying in it. Eventually we tried new vents but they haven’t worked like the first pair. The itching is coming back and I am worried what is going on. Any ideas

Have you had her tonsils and adenoids checked? Have you checked or tested for allergies? I would try find the route of the problem, instead of trying to treat the result / infection. Maybe look into her diet and see if there are any triggers there for the cause of the itchiness - such as gluten / wheat / dairy.  If her adenoids are enlarged, this would also cause constant fluid build up, so treating that would help resolve the ear infections. Good luck! Let me know!
