Q.

20 sets of grommets

My husband has probably had 20 sets of grommets by now, every year his gotto go for new grommets and it cant go on like this. He has such problems, cant hear properly, funny noises in his ear, like water, but it isnt water! Its making him mad! He would humm to establish how hard he is talking, and it is very embarrissing for him. I feel so sorry for him, but I dont think another set of grommets is the answer, and the ear specialist just recommends grommets again! Take Note: he is only 26 years old.

Dear Endless Problems

i can definitely see why you are concerned. There is quite a bit of information that i don't have but let me make a few suggestions and ask a few of my own questions. The important thing to find out with cronic middle ear problems like these, is the actual cause. Has he for example been tested for specific allergies to determine if that is not the cause of the problem. There are also other possibilities to grommets, have those been discussed with you? Have you been seeing the same Doctor over the last 26 years or has a few different professionals found the same problem and made the same diagnosis? i would further recommend that he has a full audiological evaluation if he hasn't had it already.
