Transmission of HIV

HIV can be transmitted in three ways.

HIV infection is transmitted primarily through:
  • Unprotected sexual intercourse;
  • Transmission through contaminated blood;
  • When a mother infects her baby during pregnancy, during childbirth or as a result of breastfeeding.
