H1N1 claims 2 pregnant women in SA

A second pregnant woman has died from swine flu, the national health department said on Sunday.

Spokesman Fidel Radebe said the 27-year-old Eastern Cape woman's death brought the number of the H1N1 deaths to five in the country. He had no further details.

Eastern Cape health MEC Phumolo Matsualle would be addressing the media about the province's first H1N1 death and interventions at Bisho on Monday, spokesman Sizwe Kupelo said.

The fourth person who died from the disease was a 23-year-old woman from Durban who was 30 weeks pregnant. She died after being admitted at Addington Hospital.

The country's first H1N1 victim reported was 22-year-old Stellenbosch University student Ruan Muller. The second swine flu death was of a 15-year-old boy from Bloemfontein and the third, a 42-year-old woman from the Western Cape. – (Sapa, August 2009)
