Q.

Why doesn't anyone ever write about summer flu?

Why doesn't anyone ever write about summer flu? And why isn't there a flu vaccine available later in the year although pharmaceutical companies warned us late August about the flu that will still be around???

Hi

There are different flu viruses all through the year and the flu vaccine that is available is usually made to cover the main strain of influenza that could cause the biggest outbreak. I agree that it would actually be great if there could be a twice yearly flu vaccine, with the summer one being an updated version of the winter vaccine, but it is probably not feasible and would be extremely expensive. The best that one can do for the moment is to get the flu vaccine as soon as it is available and try and keep one's immune system strong and healthy. Good luck!
