Colds and flu

Q.

How do you distinguish bronchitis from a chest cold?

Once again my 5'2" friend Kathy came down last December with acute viral bronchitis! She told me when she gets bronchitis it typically starts as a very deep chest cold. But unlike some bronchitis victims when Kathy comes down with bronchitis she typically wheezes when she coughs. She took some Robitussin DM this time to quiet her bronchitis cough but how do you tell if you have a bad chest cold or if it's bronchitis? Is wheezing also common with bronchitis coughs?

Hi Greg

Yes, wheezing can be present with bronchitis, because the airways are inflamed and narrowed. It depends on your body's specific reaction to the illness in your lungs. Good luck and stay safe.
