Colds and flu

Q.

Can bronchitis turn into asthma or pneumonia?

One of the videos I keep in my Bing Saves section shows a woman very sick with bronchitis. Now I agree with her that bronchitis can linger for months and can produce severe complications. Before the bronchitis victim in the video started coughing she said bronchitis can turn into pneumonia which I agree with since my 4'10" lupus victim Sandy Malufka first came down bronchitis before succumbing in 1994 at the age of only 34 to pneumonia but the coughing bronchitis victim also stated bronchitis developing into asthma. Can bronchitis turn to asthma or pneumonia?

Hi Greg

Yes, bronchitis can progress to pneumonia. It does not 'turn into' asthma, but it can cause a type of asthmatic hyper-reactive airways that can last for a few weeks to months after the initial bronchitis infection has cleared. This should, though, stop after a period of time. Hope you are well and healthy.
