Zuma's eye op successful

A planned surgical procedure on one of President Jacob Zuma's eyes has gone off successfully, the Office of the Surgeon General in the South African Military Health Services said on Tuesday.

Surgeon general Lieutenant-General Vejay Ramlakan said Zuma's condition was excellent and that he should make a full recovery within the next few days.

"It is most likely that he would be ready for state business from tomorrow [Wednesday] onwards."

The procedure was conducted in Durban. The medical details of the procedure were not made available. – (Sapa, September 2009)
