Q.

Chronic Abdominal Pain after ovarian cyst removal

Hello, I trust this finds you well. My mother, 67 years in age, was diagnosed with Ovarian Cancer Stage 1 and got her Cyst removed. She also underwent chemotherapy for 3 months. Post her therapy and her surgery, she complains to constant pain in her abdomen. The pain gets worse sometimes and she finds it very difficult to move about in the house and do her normal chores. Upon examination, it was found that all her parameters were well within the normal range. Her CA 125 is within the normal range post surgery. Her sugar levels, Kidney Function Tests and Cholesterol are also within the normal range. Even then, the abdominal pain continues to make her life very difficult. It has almost an year since her surgery and the pain shows no sign of going. Interestingly, this abdominal pain was not at all present after surgery and even at the time of her chemo therapy. It is only after her chemo sessions got over that she started complaining to this chronic pain in her stomach. The doctors are having a really hard time getting the right diagnosis as all of her routine medical examinations appear to be normal. She was prescribed with anti-acidity medication to her ease her pain but this has also failed to help her. I wanted to request you for a medical opinion on this. I shall be extremely thankful if you could shed more light over the issue and give your valuable medical advice. Most thankfully, Varun Prakash Dhanda (India)
