Q.

Eyesight is rapidly deteriorating and hand function affected

Good morning. I was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes after I turned 40. I've been on medication since then, but my eyesight is rapidly deteriorating. My left hand was operated on in 2014 and now my right hand is also affected, cant remember what the specialist called the condition, but know he said it was due to the diabetes. I am now 61 years old. Can this condition be classified as a disability?

Hi

It sounds like you may have had Carpal Tunnel syndrome in your left hand, and now may have this in your right hand. This can be fixed surgically again. In terms of the eyes, you will need to see an ophthalmologist to get a clear diagnosis of what the problem is. If there is a permanent eye problem secondary to diabetes and it has a significant affect on your vision, then you could potentially claim for disability
