Q.

Fluctuating reading

My blood sugar level over the past 3 days has been 7.7 6.5 then 8.7. There's nothing I did on any of those days which would have prompted the higher reading. The only thing out of the ordinary is the fact that I gave up alcohol (Binge drinker once a week) 2 weeks ago. Could this account for the variation. My friend who is type 1 diabetic did the finger readings with a machine issued by his gp I am 60, tall and not overweight thank you.

Hi

It is not clear to me whether you are a known diabetic or not, as you say you used your friend's machine
If you are not known diabetic, then I would suggest being tested, as your fasting readings are abnormal. The variation is not of concern, as you always get some variation in fasting readings due to multiple factors(alcohol, medication, food the night before, stress and sleeping habits)
